An aura of intense pride washed over many of the island’s Filipinos last Saturday, as Arnel Pineda took the stage at the University of Guam Field House. Yet, you didn’t have to be Filipino to enjoy the performance.
Pineda, along with the AMMO Band, performed live in front of a packed field house, as hundreds of screaming fans cheered and song along as he put his spin on covers of world famous songs.
“He had so much energy!” exclaims Kristine Aggabao.
Despite the slight wardrobe malfunction at the beginning, the Filipino superstar left audience members delighted.
As a recent high school graduate, Aggabao says the songs may not have been necessarily from her time, but she enjoyed it nonetheless.
“I never thought I would enjoy ’80s music so much,” she says.
The band opened with a medley of old Filipino songs from the ’70s and ’80s to which Ito McCord, a long-time fan, could hardly contain her excitement.
“I just loved loved, loved the medley of old Filipino songs … Sampaguita, The Hotdogs … control me,” she said following the show.
