See UPDATE below: no porn

A local woman buys a couple of CD’s from Walmart.

But instead of spinning tunes, they play pornography. Even worse?

The porn was child porn.

And she says she bought it at a Martin County Walmart.

Betty Adler of Palm City wanted to buy a new CD and she did something many of us have done. She went to her local Walmart, one of the most popular stores in the world.

But she never suspected what happened next, and she says it was the most disturbing thing she had ever seen.

Adler says she walked into her living room, sat down in front of her computer the other day and she popped in what she thought was a light rock music CD, and she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“All this is is a sex film,” Adler said as she watched the image on her computer.

There, on the computer screen in her living room, was child porn, what appear to be two underage boys engaging in sex acts.

Adler, a grandmother with five grandkids who works at a local resort, says she thought there must be some mistake.

But it was true. Both discs had the same kiddie porn on them.

“I’m shocked. I thought I was gonna listen to music and the concert. Whoever is doing this, whoever is underneath of it all, they’re sick! And I don’t like it, they’re hurting our children is what they’re doing,” Adler said.

Adler says she was watching Oprah Monday and there was a segment on Oprah’s show about the rock group Journey, and their live in Manila concert. Adler enjoyed the music so much, the next day she went to Walmart in Stuart and bought the two CD set titled “Journey, Live in Manila.” She showed us her receipt from Walmart, and it says she paid $10.00 for Journey, Live in Manila. An Album sold ONLY at Walmart.

It turns out they were actually DVD’s. But instead of containing music and video of Journey’s Live in Manila concert, the only thing they contain is child porn.

“I thought that everybody should know about this because what if somebody else’s kids get it?” Adler said.

Adler says she called the Walmart store on Southeast Federal Highway in Stuart where she bought the Journey, Live in Manila DVDs.

They told her to bring it back, and she would be given a full refund and they also said they would pull the others off the shelf.

A Walmart spokesperson at their headquarters in Arkansas told us by phone quote: “We will investigate it as soon as she brings it in and we will contact the label if in fact it comes from our store. We’ve never had an incident like this.”

At this point, Adler still has the DVDs and plans to go to the police.

No porn on DVD bought at Stuart Walmart

Brand new developments in a case involving pornography and a music DVD.  Tonight, CBS 12 news has learned that Walmart did not sell a music DVD that contained the images of child porn.  Police now have the DVDs in question and they were able to check them out.  No porn, no underage kids, just a Journey concert.  The Stuart Police Department says Walmart is in the clear, and it turns out the porn wasn’t on the DVDs, it was on the woman’s computer.  Betty Adler was disgusted.  On Friday CBS 12 reported her claim that a DVD she bought at a Stuart Walmart had pornography on it.  She popped it into her computer and was blown away by what she saw on the screen.

Adler said, “I can’t hardly speak, or put anything into words because I was totally shocked.”

But another shocker came when she took the DVD in question to police.  When officers had a chance to check out the disc and follow up on Betty’s claim, they didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.  They say the Journey DVD was in fact a Journey DVD.

The Stuart Police Department released this statement clearing the US 1 supercenter:

Officers went down to Walmart and met with loss prevention. They all watched the DVD and nothing was on there that shouldn’t be.

But how did the porn get on the computer screen?  Betty’s shocking day wasn’t over yet.  At about 3 o’ clock this afternoon detectives with the Martin County sheriff’s office hauled the woman’s dell computer out of her Palm City home.  Earlier in the day she talked to us about why she wanted to get police involved.

Adler said, “We need to get something done and hopefully this will help.”

After the raid Betty told us off camera she has now clue how the pornography would have gotten onto her computer.  She says the only people on it are her an one of her friends.  Tonight she’s both embarrassed and baffled by the whole thing.
